Ben Spees
Partner / Technical Director
An innovative programmer and game designer, Ben tackles both technical and creative challenges with equal relish. His range of experience has covered nearly every aspect of technical development, resulting in a roster of successful projects, ranging from small-scale apps to top-tier AAA titles.
Ben has been developing games since his teenage years. His first adventure game, Sorcerer of the Crimson Tower, was released in 1996. It was followed by the Mac hits Harry the Handsome Executive, and Ferazel’s Wand, both released by Ambrosia Software. He was responsible for all game design, level design, and programming on these titles, which were very popular and well reviewed.
Later he spent 3 years as lead client engineer on the massively multiplayer online RPG, Horizons (now renamed Istaria.) This role brought new managerial responsibilities and critical decision-making roles on technical issues. It was also a chance to work with a top name publisher, Atari. Another successful project was GRCLive video streaming software.
Since joining 5 Elements, Ben has become a key member of the team, completing the iPhone apps iMock, Kau Cim, and most recently TxtFighter.
